This Sprout Fund mural brought artist Diane Adams together with the town of Oakdale to create a pictoral history of the town. The mural stands as a backdrop to a small park and shows some old–fashion values that still stand in this community.
This article from the Post Gazette explains the design well. I had no idea that Oakdale was a main stop on the Pennsylvania Railroad until I read it there.
The mural is just around the corner from the Panhandle Trail, which would have been where the railroad tracks were. The Panhandle Trail is one of the Rails to Trails
projects that we’re so lucky to have here. If you’re riding or walking the trail, when you come to the stop sign at Union Ave turn north and then west on Noblestown Rd. It’s less than 500 feet from the trail and there are tables and benches in the small park to enjoy a break.
