The original Discobulus (discus thrower) was a bronze sculpture by Myron created around 450BC.  No one knows what happened to the original Greek sculpture, but the Romans made several copies in both marble and bronze and in different sizes.

This Discobulus is done in wormy wood, and rather than a sculpture of the naked discus thrower that Myron portrayed, Marina Warren Nash created the silhouette of the athlete using negative space for the Three Rivers Arts Festival in 1994.
