This is the second mural of a bride that we discovered in the area, and like it's somewhat more famous counterpart, this bride does not appear very happy. What are the artists trying to say about Pittsburgh brides? Everything about this mural is bright and cheerful – except for the voluptuous lady in white. There are flowers blooming everywhere, blue skies, a bright pink door, and what looks like a limousine parked in front. Again, no sign of a groom or a smile. Once again, we are left to speculate about her circumstances.
We heard from Lucas Stock of MLK Community Murals that the theme for this mural was home ownership, marriage, celebration, beauty, nature and community. He explained that the reason we don’t see the groom is because the mural is painted from the groom’s vantage point. He’s watching his bride and she’s waiting for him to come and carry her over the threshold.
Beautiful mosaic panels by V. German and J. Taylor create the upstairs windows on this mural.
