Apparently the Wiener World sign on the business below the mural had some influence in the design. According to Chris Potter from Steel City Media, with that sign beneath it, the mural couldn't be anything too serious. He explains the image of Andy Warhol and Andrew Carnegie getting make–overs in a beauty parlor as being Playful, but invites reflection. The old steel master softening his hands. It's rye and funny and ambivalent.

According to an article by Michael Krivyanski of examiner.com, the mural is intended to symbolize a renewed and revitalized city of Pittsburgh.
