When the homeowners first bought this house they had a large, blank chimney with some damage from where a tree had fallen against it. They wanted to do something with it and the idea of a mural appealed to them. Some friends of theirs knew an artist and put them in touch. They told him they wanted a mural that blended in with the surrounding woods. Something that looked like it belonged there. August Vernon painted a scene that matches the surrounding landscape so well that the tree trunks on the chimney litterally line up with the trees behind the house. You have to look closely to realize that the flowers are part of the mural and not planted in the bed in front of it.

This is one of six public murals by this artist in the area and unfortunately it's the only one that's still in good condition.
