As Dormont celebrated it’s centennial celebration in 2009, the residents submitted ideas for the new Sprout Fund mural to commemorate the event. Taylor Shields’ design was the one the residents chose. In her mural, she pictures a local musician playing a song about Dormont.

That musician was Thomas Hoyt Slim Bryant. He wasn't born in Dormont, but he called it his home for most of his life and when he died in 2010 at 101 years old he was just about the same age as the community he’s shown singing about in the mural.

The Post Gazette article by Jill Thurston in Sep 2009 describes the mural as combining Dormont’s past and future and capturing the town’s spirit. Mz Thurston quotes the artist as saying

"I wanted to stress that although it’s an older neighborhood, it is a thriving community. It’s still changing and growing, with a lot to offer. That’s why I stressed ‘100 years young’."
